Fun Pool Party Games For Kids

By Juliette Cruz  :

Pool party games for kids are the perfect way to make a birthday into a special occasion. Children do need to be supervised closely to make sure that they are safe at all times. An adult can help to make sure that each child is included and that no-one bullies anyone else.

Certain rules should be laid down before the children are allowed into the water. Any rough play like pushing or jumping on other children should not be allowed. Adult supervision is essential as children can easily become overexcited and injure others without meaning to.

You will need to take the age of the children and how well they can swim into account. Many a game can be adapted to suit older or younger children. A game which can be adjusted to the age of the child is a simple one where each child is given an object like a marshmallow and they must keep it dry. Older children can swim from end to end in the deep end, while younger ones can do this in the shallow end.

Many a game involves chasing which is greatly enjoyed by younger children. This does not usually need any props. A classic chasing game is Marco Polo. A player swims around with his eyes closed trying to catch the other children. The player shouts out Marco and the others Polo so he can hear where they are. When the lead player tags another child, that child takes his place.

A game where simple props are used is Ping Pong Scramble. Two teams are chosen, a red team and a green team. A large container of an equal number of red and green ping pong balls is thrown into the water. A team member must collect as many balls of his team color as he can and throw them into a container of the same color. The team who collects the most balls wins.

Balls of different sizes can be used in many creative ways. A relay game using a beach ball can be played with older children. Two teams form a line with players standing behind one another. The person at the front passes a beach ball over their heads to the person behind them. That person passes the ball between their legs to the next person and this pattern is followed until the last person in the line gets the ball. He races to the front and starts again. When the person who started the game is in front again, it is over.

A game which is more complex and requires more props is called Clear Your Side. The pool is divided in half with a rope and one team stands on each side of the rope. Each side is supplied with an equal number of floating and sinking items such as beach balls, pool toys and bean bags. The object of the game is to get as many items as possible over the rope into the other side in a certain amount of time. A whistle is blown and the team which has the fewest objects in its side is the winner.

Pool party games for kids are perfect for a memorable occasion. Prizes may be awarded in different categories at the finish. It is important to ensure that not only winners receive prizes. Other qualities, such as politeness or creativity can be rewarded too.
