Superfoods for Your Immune System

Most folks hope to stay as healthy as they can for as long as possible. There isn't any shame in this. It is why we work out. Most of us have learned which foods to eat to have a balanced diet full of health-giving foods. This is the reason we keep a bottle of pure water handy throughout our day. We know we need to do these things to stay healthy day to day.

Nevertheless, do you think we are protected enough to get us through the cold and flu season unscathed? What can we do if our co-workers insist on coming to work with their various ills and we don't want to become sick? Well, there is an answer. At times like this it helps to know how to power-up your immune system. Here are some foods you can eat to do just that.

While most people don't think of meat products necessarily as superfoods, pork chops are, indeed, a superfood for your immune system. This is probably not welcome news to vegetarians and vegans but that doesn't make it any less true. There are times when you are losing weight and it's bad for your health. Eating 6-ounces of pork chops during this critical time can stop the weight loss. When some folks are sick, they drop weight. If they eat the pork chops, the weight loss will stop. You might not think that it's such a good idea to eat pork chops each day. On the plus side, they are loaded with selenium which is a natural antioxidant and helps your body fight against cancer. You don't have to be worried about being bored with pork chops, because there are many different ways to cook and serve them.

Kale, if you eat it raw, is great for your health. One of the highest forms of Vitamin C is found in raw Kale. Did you know that? Not only that, but it is low in sugar and really high in fiber. If you must cook your kale, be advised that this kills off some of the valuable Vitamin C your body needs.

Did you know that sunflower seeds can boost your immune system? They are a delicious superfood. They contain a lot of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is an important part of your body being able to keep your sinuses and other mucous membranes healthy.

Salmon has been touted as one of the great superfoods for many reasons. One of the benefits of eating salmon is its ability to optimize your immune system. Salmon has a plentiful supply of omega-3 fatty acids and is high in protein - two components needed to keep your overall health high. Your muscles enlarge when you eat enough protein and, when they are strong, your body is more prepared to fight illness. There are bacteria and germs that invade our body and cause illness. Omega-3s fight these invaders to protect our health from Omega-6s. Plan your weekly menus so you can have salmon for two meals a week. The recommendation, however, is three fish meals weekly, but sometimes this is hard to do if you're not a big fan of salmon.

You can find different superfoods to help with whatever health concerns you might have. I've even seen a book with over 100 superfoods explained.
